Hi, I am Malahat Hosseini, the founder of Luminous Cloud.
My journey in creative fields started twenty years ago — as a filmmaker and graphic designer, before the internet pulled me toward something more alive. Interactive media had what film had: sequence, immersion, and the power to create an experience more encompassing than a static image.
I moved to Canada to study the art of interactive media and technologies. In graduate school my passion shifted to the practice of design itself. I spent most of my time studying the design process and research methodologies — not just how to make things, but how to think about making things.
I see design as a practice of creating futures. We all design, and we all live in a world shaped by other people’s decisions. The quality of our lives is deeply affected by the design of our environments, our tools and our everyday things. Interactive applications now carry some of the highest stakes in their effect on our lives— by virtue of the hours we live inside them. I am driven to tame that power to elevate people’s lives, not just digitize them. I like to close my eyes and see the people who use what we build, feel more motivated, more empowered, more in love with their work and their day.
